Makeup for your wedding day

In general, makeup for photography should be heavier than normal. This doesn't mean unnatural, rather apply more than you normally do. The camera freezes time and shows flaws much more than the brain notices them in person.

Skin Prep:
Use an oil free moisturizer unless you have dry skin. Oily moisturizers make your face appear more shiny in photos, which makes you look oily and sweaty. Coat your face, neck, and chest. Use a lip conditioner to avoid unsightly wrinkles in your lips.

Foundation:
Matte foundation as a rule! No sparkles or iridescence. Having a shiny or glowing foundation makes your face appear shiny or oily on camera. Don't forget to cover under your eyes. Powder your face lightly at the end of adding foundation. Keep the powder away from your eyes, as powder near eyes can accentuate folds and wrinkles.

Bronzer:
Your Bronzer can have a little shimmer or iridescence, but NO GLITTER. Glitter looks like little white specks on your skin on camera. Coverage should simulate where the sun would hit your face: cheek bones, nose bridge, forehead, chin, neck, and chest.

Blush:
Apply blush heavier than normal to contour your cheek bones. If you don't apply enough, it won't show up on camera. Take some photos with your digital camera to gauge how much blush you need.

Eyes:
Eye Shadow- Iridescence or shimmer is OK for the eyes. Do not put too much iridescent makeup under the eyes as it can make your eyes appear wet and sweaty in photos. If it extends too far beneath the eyes, your eyes may look sweaty.

Mascara- Avoid "cakey" mascara and clumps. Make sure to separate the lashes to make your eyes appear more open and inviting.

Lips:
Lipstick with a little bit of moisturizer is best. Avoid glitter. Iridescence and light lip gloss application is fine.

Touch-ups:
  • Use long wearing makeup to avoid too many touchups. You don't want to look to "cakey" by the end of the day.
  • Keep a brush and powder handy to touchup those areas on your face that tend to get shiny or oily like the forehead, and nose bridge.
  • Most faces don't hold blush very well, so keep your blush handy as well.
  • And of course carry lipstick!  You will be talking, eating, smiling, and kissing your hubby throughout the day, so lipstick or lip gloss if you use it, is a must!
